The Université catholique de Louvain through the Electrical Engineering Department (ELEN) counts about 70 researchers active in semiconductor devices and integrated circuits. Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) and CMOS have been major themes of R&D for more than 20 years, leading to significant contributions with regards to e.g. double-gate MOSFETs, NWs, high-T SOI CMOS, Ultra-Low-Power smart sensors and circuits, in terms of processing, characterization, simulation, modeling and design, in particular for applications in the microsystem field. The ELEN department runs two major UCL infrastructures. WINFAB, Wallonia Nano Fabrication Infrastructure, 1000 m² of clean rooms with a full pilot line for SOI CMOS processing, nanoelectronics, organic electronics, integrated sensors/MEMS/NEMS and photovoltaic. WELCOME, Wallonia Electronics and Communications Measurements, for the characterization of electronics devices, planar hybrid, and integrated circuits, from DC up to 110 GHz including on-wafer measurement.
